Spanning the Mtkvari river in Tbilissi (Georgia) is an arresting new pedestrian bridge, courtesy of Italian architect Michele de Lucchi and French lighting designer Philippe Martinaud. The structure is composed of glass and steel with a 150m canopy roof connecting Old Tbilisi with the new district.
The so called “Bridge of Peace” features an interactive light display system. 48,000 LED and 240 sensors installed within the structure show specific messages, scrolled across the two parapets of the bridge every hour. Through motion sensors even pedestrian movements can be transformed into lighting effects.
