Pazhou Hotel / Aedas

International firm Aedas designed a new hotel and mixed-use development for Guangzhou,China. The complex, which will be completed in 2012, is centrally located within an existing exhibition zone. While the project fronts directly onto one side of the water, the location affords views to the water from both directions. “The design strives to be unique and iconic to give the project a strong and comfortable identity within its surroundings, aiding in its success among competing neighbors.”

More about the project and more images after the break.

Sliding floor plates break down the bulky mass and allow light to enter the inner exhibition hall. The lower levels include multiple levels of retail spaces, an exhibition hall and eateries, and there is a connection to a subway station on the lower floor.

The lobby, which straddles the other side of the pre-function concourse for the exhibition hall, has stacked support spaces until the fourth floor where these supporting functions have space to open up horizontally.

A grand 60 meter atrium ties all these activities together, which is surrounded by the hotel rooms of the tower.
