Europa City is a vortex of different landscapes and nationalities combined to create a prototypal vision of the united continent of Europe. Conceived by Manuelle Gautrand Architects, the project translates the concept of multiculturality into a built environment that takes the shape of a series of intertwining loops. The rooftops are planted with foliage of differing scales and types, combined with a complex system forrainwater recycling and solar energy generation. It is a future city that aims to achieve cooperation and alliance through sustainability
The massive culture, recreation, and retail center for Triangle de Gonesse, France is situated along the approach between the Charles de Gaule Airport in Roissy and Paris. Designed for an international competition, the project is part of a larger initiative to revitalize the north part of the French capital. Occupying a total area of 600,000 square meters, it seeks to transform the site into an international travel destination. With its spacious plazas, artificial ski slopes, and interiors that resemble prehistoric caves, Europa City is an amalgam of cultures and topographies.
The project’s functions are distributed into specific areas for designated countries. A large, walkable green roof integrates the pavilion-like structure of the complex, and extends into the surrounding landscape. It combines strips of luscious vegetation with a renewable energy system. Over 20,000 square meters of photovoltaic cells are optimally positioned and, along with rainwater harvestingpossibilities, help offset the ecological footprint of the city.
