prototype chair in honor of hans j. wegner by tadao ando for carl hansen + son

japanese architect
tadao ando with danish furniture company carl hansen + son have collaborated on a project to develop a prototype chair
honoring the aesthetic of the late danish designer hans j. wegner. the creative relationship between carl hansen + son and ando
has come quite easily to both parties, as both design forces greatly value the work of wegner. wegner's work has been featured
in both tadao ando and carl hansen + son's porfolios-- several of his pieces are included in the furniture company's collection
while the architect frequently features the iconic 'wishbone' chair in photographs of his buildings. ando, known for his minimalist,
geometric expression combines this style with organic qualities-- making his design approach perfectly aligned with the visual ideals of
carl hansen + son. the sleek prototype combines the design sensibilities of both ando's modern western and japanese amalgamation and
hansen + son's distinctly scandinavian perspective. the new partnership was announced during
salone del mobile 2012,
and the chair will be available by 2013.

detailed perspective of the chair

'we are thrilled about our new design partnership with tadao ando, who is an obvious choice for us. his minimalist, innovative
and functional style is a perfect match for the scandinavian design philosophy. so we expect a lot from this alliance, which will help
carl hansen + son expand its international design platform. it is also a great honour and extremely inspiring for us to work with
an architect of his caliber' - knud erik hansen, ceo of carl hansen + son
